Please review Character Breakdowns below to see if there is a part that suits you prior to submitting. All sides provided at the day of auditions for a cold read. All auditioners will need to either read from the script, perform a monologue and sing 16 bars of a soulful song. Accompanist will NOT be provided, so performances can be to mp3 or accapella. In person auditions preferred. Appointments preferred.

SYNOPSIS
Birth of Soul is a musical stage play saluting Soul music from its origins through the Motown era up to modern day. The show originally debuted at The Madam Walker Theater in 2009 and was staged again by Joyce Licorish & The Cupboard Presents, in 2013. This will be the 10 year anniversary of the show.
Character Breakdown
Ms. Witsum – Age 50+ Open Race, Quirky, Spunky Over-The-Top principal/substitute fill-in. She has a love interest in the Janitor of the school and narrates most of the story through a series of class lessons.
Ms. Strickland – Age 40+ Open Race, Uptight, no-nonsense school teacher
Janitor – Mr. Crisp -Age 60+ African American Male lovestruck janitor who takes an interest in mentoring the kids and telling stories of his past as a do-wop singer and military veteran.
Ms. White – Age 40+ Caucasian School Administrative Assistant- disorganized, disgruntled and always on the search for Mr. Right, she is the queen of blue eyed soul.
